Digital Signage in the Age of COVID-19
How You Can Hack Your Screens to Broadcast Powerful, Effective Coronavirus PSA’s
We are officially in strange territory. As COVID 19 continues to spread around the world, it’s rattling whole industries, economies, and countries. Most of us are still wrapping our heads around what’s happening, but one thing is for sure: things are getting a little dicey 😰
Just this week alone the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Basically, an epidemic…but on a global scale 🌎Governments are ramping up their responses on the heels of that announcement.
Travel bans and lockdown measures have been put in place to try to halt the spread, and some countries are even getting creative with their PSAs - this song by Vietnam’s government about proper hand washing techniques is actually quite catchy 🎶 But so far the coronavirus has infected over 160,000 people worldwide, Tom Hanks among them.
Wait, that Tom Hanks?
Yeah, that Tom Hanks 😭And beyond Hollywood’s borders, the virus has touched virtually every industry as all of them scramble to enforce the reassuringly monikered “social distancing.” As in…many are hitting pause and cancelling large events.
The Digital Signage world was hit last week, when the announcement came that DSE 2020 will be postponed 😔 The NBA and NHL have suspended their seasons. Cultural institutions are temporarily closing their doors. Even Disney World will no longer be the happiest place on Earth.
That’s a lot.
It is. All of it to say… it’s more crucial than ever to have solid public health messaging across media platforms 🙌🏿 For purveyors of digital signage this means it’s time to use your screens for good: help quell public panic, be a transmitter of reliable information, and remind your audience of the important steps they can take to care for themselves and play their part in preventing outbreaks.
So how do I do that?
In many ways! We’ve compiled a list of coronavirus digital signage PSA materials that you can run on your screens. All are free to use and have been cleared for sharing on all public media 👍🏾
If you’re using Pixelart CMS…
- You can run this ad we created full of verified, accurate COVID-19 information and prevention advice from the World Health Organization
If your business or organization is actively posting social media updates about the virus, connect your Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts to our respective apps. Remember, Pixelart automates the content coming from your feeds, so your screens will update automatically with your latest posts.
We created a collection of Google slides templates with health recommendations from the CDC and WHO. Access is free to anyone who wants them, in English and Spanish. Find everything in this Google Drive folder. Instructions for downloading are included in both languages. If you want to use them with Pixelart, just open the presentation, make a copy, save it (or customize the presentation & save), and then upload it to your ad with our Google Slides app.
If you’re making your own COVID 19 digital signage content, you can incorporate these free coronavirus awareness icons made by Iconfinder.
WHO has images, factsheets, and more available for download here. Make them part of the digital signage playlist in your office, school, clinic, or restaurant.
Digital Signage For Good
It’s still unclear just when all of this is going to end. A lot of people are feeling scared. Though it may feel like there’s little we can do about what’s going on, you can use your screens for the good of your communities, employees, customers, and more. Pixelart is here to help you do that!
