Headed To DSE 2020?
So, you’re going to Vegas for the Digital Signage Expo 2020.
Maybe you’re a dewy eyed first time attendee 😍 or a seasoned show veteran 👴🏾 Either way, in just a few short weeks, the ribbon will be cut and the sea of visitors will be unleashed on the exhibit floor.
Pixelart will be there among the excitement, but first we thought we’d share some of our insider tips for getting the absolute most out of your visit: planning your hall journey, choosing sessions, getting around Vegas, and more. Allow us to be your guru…
The Show Itself
- Where: Las Vegas Convention Center | Hall N2-N4
- When: April 1-2, 2020
- Hours: 8 AM - 5 PM (Conference schedule outside the exhibit hall will differ)
As the world’s largest international trade show and educational conference dedicated to digital displays and interactive technology, DSE’s event program is nothing short of extraordinary (read: exhausting.) With 200+ vendors and over 120 educational opportunities taking the form of workshops, roundtables, summits (and more) the long short of it is - you simply won’t have time to see and do it all. You’ll need to strategize 🤔Here’s what we recommend:
Explore & ask questions beforehand: Spend some time on the official website well before the show and ask yourself some questions to determine what you want to take away from it: “What brings me to the show?’ and ‘What do I need to learn the most about?’ Breakout sessions are very detailed and focus on niche topics; it’s really easy to find events that are relevant to you. Base your choices about what sessions you’ll attend and your expo hall journey on that.
Try not to overpack your day with activities: Definitely have a plan of what exhibitors you’d like to see, but do try to block out some time just to wander and discover the show floor. You may be pleasantly surprised to find that some of the most valuable information or innovations you see might be from a booth that you didn’t plan to visit!
Network, network, network: Plan to attend the Networking Reception & APEX Awards Ceremony on April 1 (The Awards ceremony will follow directly after the reception.) Both are superb places for meeting up with people who are really invested in the industry and happy to have a chat. Make some connections over complimentary wine & cheese 🍷🧀 It doesn’t have to be cringe. And speaking of networking…
Bring extra business cards: You’re gonna need ‘em. Trust us.
Send yourself to bootcamp: If you’re a DSE first-timer, keep in mind that DSE usually holds a New-Attendee Bootcamp right before the event. It helps you familiarize yourself with the learning opportunities at DSE 2020 as well as how to navigate the show floor. Session BOOT 2020 is planned for 2:00-5:00 PM Tuesday, March 31st. 🥾🥾
Convince your boss to let you go: It’s not always easy to get approval to be away from work. If you need a little help convincing your higher-ups that DSE is a worthwhile investment of time & resources, they’ve created a simple letter template you can download to justify your registration request. Find it here.
Vegas can get pretty pricey, especially when it decides to host one of the biggest trade shows in the world. Thankfully though, DSE has partnered with Connections Housing to provide discounted room rates for both attendees exhibitors 💸
Alternatively, if you’re not hooked up through DSE discounts, look for hotels that are connected to Las Vegas’ Monorail. It will take you directly to the Convention Center and save you more than a few bucks on taxis or car rentals.
If you need more inspiration, check out this guide to scoring cheap hotel rooms in Vegas 🏨
The address of the Convention Center is:
3150 Paradise Rd Las Vegas NV 89109
If you’re not close enough to walk to the Center, the cheapest way to get around will be by the city’s Monorail. It’s directly connected to several Strip resort hotels as well as the Las Vegas Convention Center. But once again, DSE comes through: DSE attendees get discounted rates (with single 24 hour passes for $13.)
Discounted coach services are also available for shuttling between McCarran International Airport and your hotel.
You can find information on those discounts on DSE’s Hotels & Transportation page 💸
Be aware: you can’t hail taxis from the Las Vegas Strip (it’s illegal for drivers to stop.) So plan ahead to rent a car or Uber around.
Pack the Right Stuff
- Walkin’ Shoes:The Convention Center is huge (2 million square feet, to be exact.) Switch it up for your evening activities, but wear comfy shoes when walking the show floor. Your feet will thank you 👟🙏🏻
- Power bank: you’ll be using your phone a lot - be sure to bring a power bank so you don’t waste any time nursing your phone while it’s connected to a hallway plug.
- Layering clothes: lest some of us forget - Las Vegas is in a desert. That means sunny days and cool evenings. Layer up so that you can add and remove items of clothing as you need to throughout the day. If you want to swim - call ahead and check that your hotel pool will be open in March. If so…feel free to bring your swimsuit 👙🩲☀️ and enjoy the warm sun!
A Little Extra Excitement
There’s a reason Vegas is such an iconic American city. If you’ve planned to include some time outside your DSE itinerary (and we definitely think you should) there is literally almost nothing you can’t get up to 🤩
The Show Must Go On
Let’s take a sec to address the elephant in the room: COVID-19 Virus. As of February 27, DSE 2020 is STILL ON 👍👍
“With our trade show and conference staging March 31- April 3, says the show management, and no outbreak of this virus in the U.S., we can confirm that DSE 2020 will take place as planned. We have been closely monitoring the situation and will continue to do so over the coming weeks. The greater majority of DSE’s exhibitors and attendees are based in the U.S. There are currently no travel restrictions within the U.S., or to and from most international destinations. We don’t expect that to change prior to the show dates. So, travel to and from DSE 2020 should be as convenient and safe as ever.”
So that’s that on that. Of course, take common sense precautions to protect your health and check in on DSE’s site for further updates.
