Let Pixelart Do The Heavy Lifting For You

Pixelart is a simple to use, yet powerful, CMS. It is designed to manage small to large screen networks alike with complete ease. Here we will explain some of the concepts that are important for managing your network. For Screen management we use a Kanban style board. In this guide we demonstrate some of the benefits of this approach.

1. What is a Screen Group

A Screen Group is a collection of Screens grouped by a Playlist. In other words, all Screens in the Group play the same Campaigns.

2. Screen Group Creation

You can create a Screen Group by naming it and then populating it with your Screens. Alternatively, you can create a Screen Group without naming it; in this case a randomly generated name will be assigned to your group; you can change the name anytime by clicking the Name field.

Warning - Word of caution: do not use our name generator for choosing a name for your new born baby, some names can be out of this world! Or maybe you should…. :)

Note: When hovering over a Screen in your Group, you will see the corresponding Screen pin enlarge on the map, this will help you to quickly locate it on the map.

3. Adding Screens

Once you have created a Screen Group, you can start populating it with your Screens. You can do so by clicking the link at the bottom of your chosen Group. This will take you to the SELECT YOUR PLAYER PLATFORM page where you must select the Media Player model you are using for your Screen.

Pixelart supports many different Player types and we are actively adding more platforms all the time. If you can’t find your desired Player platform please contact us and we will get it added ASAP for you. We also have super cool articles for each Media Player with useful information and instructions on how to add them to our CMS, so you can hit the ground running.

4. Playlist Synchronization

Once you’re finished with adding your Screen, you should see it appear in your Screen Group. Successfully registered Screens will have a pulsing green line which means they are online and active. The spinner indicates that the Screen is synchronizing with the Group’s playlist.

Note: All Campaigns will automatically be published to all Screens in the allocated Screen Group, this feature is useful because you don’t have to publish each Campaign every time you add a new Screen. Pixelart CMS supports offline playback, meaning that when Screen doesn't have an access to the Internet, it will continue playing content normally.

If the Screen does not become active, this means you will need to retry the registration process by removing the Screen from the Screen Group and repeating the adding process. Screen registration usually fails due to a Screen connection issue, meaning the CMS is unable to connect to the Screen. You will need to check that you have correctly entered the Screen details, such as the IP or Token, and that the Screen has access to the internet.

Screen Status Bar:

- Green Pulsing Line: Screen is Online and is ready to receive any updates

- Grey Line: This means the Screen has been offline for less than 24 hours, and it will automatically receive updates once it becomes online but in the meantime playback will not be disrupted

- Red Line: Requires an urgent attention: the screen has been offline for more than 24 hours, and it will automatically receive updates once it becomes online but in the meantime playback will not be disrupted

5. Moving Screens Across Groups

You can move the Screens across any of your Groups with total ease, the Screen will automatically synchronize to the new Group's Playlist, so there is no need to manually delete or publish Campaigns on your Screen either. Simply click and drag the Screen across to your desired Group.

6. Managing Individual Screens

To manage individual Screen settings, click on a Screen in a Group or on a Screen pin on the map to navigate to the Screen Settings page.

7. Screen Table View

We appreciate that sometimes you don’t want a Kanban style view of your Screens and maybe you just want to see a simple list of your Players in a table. You can do this by clicking on your Account in the top right corner of your screen and selecting Players.

On this page you can pretty much do the same thing as on the Screens Page. However, you also have some additional Screen info available:

  • - IP Address: If a Screen is using an IP address it will show it here
  • - Status: This shows if the Screen is online/offline
  • - Location: Your Screen’s physical location, hover the mouse over if the full address is not visible
  • - Orientation: Screen orientation (landscape, portrait, etc.)
  • - Player Model: Shows the type of the Player you are using
  • - Last Online: Shows the time your Screen was last online (very useful when it goes offline)

Tip: The filtering functionality is also present here to help you search for your Screens more quickly using a keyword: IP, Address, Name or Group.

8. Group Colour

You might also notice (we hope!) that in the top left corner of your Screen Group is a randomly assigned colour. You can edit this to a colour of your choice by simply clicking on the coloured corner and then selecting your desired colour from the palette. The same colour is also assigned to its corresponding Screen pin on the map above. This helps you to track and differentiate Screens from different Groups on the map more easily. Plus it looks pretty 😊

9. Screen Map

The Screen map gives you a geographical perspective of your Screen Network, especially useful when monitoring larger networks. Screens are represented on the map as pins, with their corresponding Screen Group colour; if the Screen is online the pin is bright but if it’s offline the pin will be faded; if you are unsure, you can hover your mouse over the pin to see the Screen status info quickly.

Note: Our Screen map is a standard Google map. You can hide or show the map at any time by using the switch below the bottom right corner of the map

10. Screen Group Icons

Screen Group has few icons, we have outlined what they all mean for you below:

This shows the number of Screens in the Group

This shows the number of Published Campaigns to the Screen Group

This is the physical address/location of your Screen/Player

This will delete your Screen Group

If you want to add/remove a Campaign to/from a Screen Group go to the Campaigns Page.

11. Order & Filtering

For larger Screen Networks, with multiple Screen Groups, it can be useful to arrange the Screen Group order, you can do this by simply dragging them across the page; you can also use the search bar to filter Groups and Screens by Name, Location or IP.

12. Deleting Screen Groups

You can delete a Screen Group by pressing the icon. This will delete the Screen Group with all of its corresponding Screens; all the Campaigns published on the Players will be automatically stopped for this Screen Group, but will keep playing to any other allocated Screen Groups that are still live.
